This document answers most of the questions anyone who wants to hunt might have including when deer hunting starts and ends, hours during the day a person can hunt and where they can hunt. It goes into detail about several requirements like wearing blaze orange. Most people know they must wear this color when they go out but are they aware 50% of their outfit must be blaze orange? Or perhaps they know a person must be wearing orange but maybe they don't know ground stands found on land owned by the DNR must have a minimum of 144 square inches of blaze orange on their stand. Also, the orange must be visible from all directions. If you feel you know all about the dress code, how about what weapons are legal or illegal? While it is doubtful this method would be at the top of anyone's list, it is illegal to kill a deer with dogs. It is also illegal to hunt with an automatic weapon or use anything other than a single shot or projectile. It is illegal to hunt with a firearm if you are a felon but legal to use a cross bow for small game. It talks about the requirements of transportation, tagging, baiting and much more.
It is not just basic rules and regulations either. At the end of several sections, the DNR complied a list of frequently asked questions and answered them. There are grey boxes scattered throughout the pages with pertinent facts in them and different maps are used to show where deer can be hunted and what types can be located in those areas. Located near the very back, they have a summary of the rules and regulations written in Spanish and another one written in Hmong. Needless to say, it doesn't go into all the detail but it does hit the most relevant ideas. They have a disclaimer on the front stating the whole pamphlet is a summary of the most important laws but it is not a complete set. The information in this document provides the basics for anyone looking to update themselves on what they can and can't do during deer hunting season.
