If, like me, you are tired of the cold and the snow, you can skip a few of the pictures which capture wonderful snow covered hills or frozen rivers. Focus on the wildflower scenes or those that show blue lakes and streams. You can find highways with no snow piles near them or people kayaking without six layers of clothes on. See green grass and blue skies with the sun shining. You will see pictures of the Nation’s capital and a C&O Canal lock. The pictures vary from scenic overhead shots to close ups of flowers and insects. All of the photos were taken by Thomas Paradis whose work on this book was part of the National Parks Service’s Inventory and Monitoring program. This program has a goal of getting the word out about the natural resources of the National Parks. They hope by seeing some of the wonders waiting for them people will be inspired to visit. The pictures show off the obvious spots but they also showcase smaller scenes you might not notice if you aren’t looking. By focusing on some of the lesser known spots, viewers will hopefully become intrigued and determined to find their own areas.
Even if you have no interest in visiting a national park or don’t like nature all that much, this document will contain something you will enjoy. Come by and take a look. Find out if I’m right. The sudoc number is I 29.2: P 56/6.
